Get in “TOUCH” this Fall!

The Minnesota Sports Federation has put the “touch” back into adult touch football.

In years past, touch football was known as anything but a “touch” sport or a very safe one for that matter. Through the efforts of state touch football rules interpreters Frank White and Phil Gladhill the game has come full circle to what it was originally intended to be. Blocking and rushing rules have been dramatically altered to emphasize finesse and speed rather than brute force.

Phil Gladhill, touch football rules interpreter, is available to conduct a clinic in your community for team managers and officials. The only stipulation is that all local teams and game officials are required to attend. By hosting a clinic in your community, you will eliminate potential problems and enhance the quality of experience for your participants. We have had a problem in the past with teams from some communities who arrive for state tournament play thinking the game is rougher than it is. The future of touch football is a clean, finesse game and this is how it is officiated at the state tournament. Please contact Federation offices prior to August 31 if you would like a clinic in your community. The clinician fee is $65.00 plus mileage at the rate of $.40.

Contact Phil Gladhill at PGladhill@warnertool.com or at 763/557-4855.

Teams qualify for MSF State Championship play by virtue of their participation and finish in league play.

State tournament teams are guaranteed two games with the majority getting three. State tournament awards and game officials are always of the highest caliber.

Prior to the beginning of tournament play, should an MSF-owned and operated event need to be postponed to a later date (within 90 days of the original dates), there shall be no refund to teams that cannot play on the rescheduled date.

Prior to the beginning of tournament play, should an event have to be cancelled entirely, teams will receive a credit on the following year’s entry fee for the same event. The amount of the credit will be the original entry fee minus administrative/programming work already performed (i.e., salaries/independent contractors, website, program guides, rulebooks, promotion, flyers, postage, scheduling, rent, telephone, etc.).

Once a tournament has begun and a cancellation occurs (and the tournament cannot be rescheduled to be held within 90 days of the original tournament dates), no monetary credits will be provided to teams that did not receive the minimum number of games guaranteed unless money has been returned from the site in the form of unpaid umpire/referee fees, unused game equipment, and awards. The amount credited shall be distributed equally to teams that did not get their minimum game guarantee.

A reminder that the Sports Federation’s Board welcomes your attendance and input at all directors’ meetings. Please contact MSF offices for the date and time of the next board meeting to be conducted in October.

If you have a team, but no league to play in, call the MSF for the league nearest you!
