Stanley “Stony” Mount – Rochester

 

Stanley “Stony” Mount started playing organized softball in 1935. A catcher during his career, he was considered to be one of the finest in Southern Minnesota. His steady play behind the plate and his ability to hit all pitches were the main reasons Rochester teams consistently finished near the top in state tournaments. In fact, Stony participated in 22 state tournaments during the 32 years he played.

Some of the teams Stony played for included: Brown Derby, Elks, Normandy Lounge, Eagles Lounge, and the North Star Bar. With Stony catching, these teams won many invitational tournaments throughout southern Minnesota.

Many fans and players who are familiar with state tournaments over the years all mention Stony Mount as an all-star catcher and one of the better hitters.
